It never ceases to surprise me the amount of folks who call us interested in Brazilian slate tiles, but still undecided whether they should use granite, limestone or other type of stone instead.

Inevitably they realise that Brazilian slate tiles are the natural choice. Brazilian slate tiles are hugely popular because of their very own unique properties. For instance whereas slate tiles from other parts of the world will be heavily riven, our Brazilian slate tiles are smooth riven, still keeping full character, but a lot easier on your foot. Apart from that it is highly resistant to chemical atacks, suffice to say that it is recommended by a number of pool installers as the preferred stone for surrounding areas of swiming pools. Lets not forget about the high level of anti-slip ressitance unique to Brazilian slate tiles, which again makes our Brazilian slate tiles a massive first choice for young families.

That is why we think that more and more Brazilian slate tiles should be used around the house. Kithens, bathrooms and wet rooms are perfect examples of very successful applications, but lets not forget about conservatories, sunrooms and patios. The areas where Brazilian slate tiles can be used in and around the house are almost countless.

Finally we have the good weather with us. This is a good opportunity to start thinking about the spring/summer projects that we did not do last year. One reason that is not mentioned enough about slate floor tiles, although is one of its key features, is the fact that it has amazing stain-resistant qualities.

Due to  increasing demand we are now expanding our product range. In January 2010 we will introduce a new range of Flagstones in black slate and Grey/green slate colours.
This new range will bring some very interesting slab sizes – 600mm x 1200, 450mm x 1800mm and 2 circular sizes - 1000mm and 1200mm, to mention just a few. This new range will be presented in thicker 25mm calibrated slabs and will make any room, but in particular large areas, both inside and outside the house look really imposing.

We are also expanding our warehouse facilities in 2010 which will enable us to increase out stocking facilities, making sure that when you ready to order from us, whatever the quantity, the stock is readily available.

Indeed that is the question being asked frequently.

Our advice is to always seal it. Even if it is for outside use, it is always necessary to seal specially to avoid staining the stone when grouting. However there is a proper sequence for sealing that should always be observed. After the tiles have been properly washed dried and laid, before grouting, the tiles should be sealed. It is of paramount importance to seal your floor or wall at that stage and not after grouting.  By following the correct sequence will avoid staining the tiles from the grouting.

It is worth mentioning that although possible to fix stained floors it will involve quite a bit of work, not to mention the extra cost with the appropriate products.

Obviously the professional tiller will no doubt know this. However, during this climate of credit crunch, more and more customers have a go at it themselves, so our advise is to get as much information as possible to make sure that you will have a floor or wall that will make you proud rather than bring you shame!

We have been taking a lot of calls from customers looking for suggestions for different patterns. As Brazilistone have such a wealth of sizes we are always recommending that people use not only different sizes but also borders, made out of our mosaic range and strips to complement their projects.

A pattern used will depend very much on the colour chosen, tile size and more importantly room size and shape. This is when common sense should prevail. We always advise to use large tile sizes on larger areas but the opposite is also advisable, i.e. if you have a small are to tile a large tile size will not bring out the best features of this room.

The general rule of thumb is to use sizes that complement each other even when used on a random pattern, for instance 60cm x 90 cm will go well with 60×60, 60×30 and 30×30, from the same token 60×60 can be used to great effect together with 60×40 and 40×40 tiles sizes.

We will be implementing shortly an installation guide page and a pattern suggestion page, so our customers will be able to browse though them to choose a pattern which will be most suitable to their project.
